Teaching that begins in reading and continues on the road.
The teaching happens in three settings: field seminars that move through a region over several days, lectures and talks for schools, universities and cultural institutions, and longer study journeys for small groups.
The subjects are the ones I keep returning to in writing and in the field — history, religion, landscape, trade routes and food culture across China, Tibet, Inner Asia, the Silk Roads.
Each programme is built around reading before departure, method in the field, and writing afterwards. Details of specific programmes are listed with the journeys.
